Boyz-II-Men Survival Boot Camp

Where our goal is Christian Manhood.

Survival Boot Camp

“Train a child in the way he should go. When he is old, he will not turn away from it.” –Proverbs 22:6, NIRV

The purpose of the LFCWC Boyz-II-Men Survival Boot Camp Ministry, under the able leadership of Elder Mitchel A. Phelps-Wiley, is to transform boys, ages 6-17, into Christian men. This involves training and testing where the boys will acquire and demonstrate skill in each of the following general areas:

  1. Knowledge of the contents of the Bible
  2. Personal Growth & Development
  3. Health & Wellness
  4. Race Relations Experience
  5. Home, school, community, and church projects
  6. Economic Awareness
  7. Politics

“He who chooses the beginning of a road, also chooses the place it leads to.” (Harry Emerson Fosdick)

The boys are taken through processes designed to teach through physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual experiences the values and truths of living a Christian life, a spiritual wakening, and a rebirth into exceptional men of God.

We believe the boys must know that,

  • Their father (mother) and other men believe in them and support them.
  • They have a story to tell and a journey to take.
  • We must help them realize that the only way to become a man is with God’s help.
  • A man can be rugged, bold and daring as well as tender, loving, sensitive and creative.
  • Sometimes, a man has to push past the emotions in a tough situation to act. And at other times, it is perfectly alright to cry and show emotions.
  • We will help them come to know the “Jesus Model”, which is truly the best life possible.

Members of this ministry also participate in the following activities and ministries:

  • Worship and Special Events Ushers
  • Weekend Retreats to learn survival skills
  • Week long Basketball camps
  • Summer Reading Programs
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Overnight “Escape, Evasion, Close-Quarter Combat” – learning how to escape to Christ, how to evade the enemy, and learning closequarter combat skills using Biblical principles.

We invite them to join us on Sundays for training from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the Bethel Lutheran Church Building, 3839 W. Frontage Rd., Palatine, IL.
